The majority of the correspondence is to be found amongst the Clarke family papers and other collections in the Mitchell Library and Dixson Library, Sydney. Entries marked with an asterisk ‘*' are items of correspondence involving Clarke but not necessarily addressed to him. An entry with a question mark ‘?' indicates some doubt exists regarding the precise date or authorship of the letter. Historical annotations of a personal nature are also included.
